SCF attends 2014 International Roof Coating Conference

SCF’s Vic Granquist attended the recent International Roof Coating Conference (IRCC) in Baltimore; organized by the Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA), of which SCF is a member.

This conference is focused specifically on elastomeric roof coatings to improve roofing performance in terms of reflectance, leak-proofing, longevity and environmental aspects.  This year’s conference was created in partnership with the following organizations:

§  Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)

§  Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL)

§  National Research Council Canada (NRC)

§  Canadian Paint and Coatings Association (CPCA)

§  Liquid Roofing and Waterproofing Association (LRWA)

§  Global Cool Cities Alliance (GCCA)

§  European Cool Roofs Council (ECRC)

§  American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE)

§  Alliance to Save Energy (ASE)

Membership in RCMA and attendance at these conferences allows SCF to keep up to date with not only roof coatings, but related elastomeric coating technologies. Issues of current interest include solvent replacement to reduce VOC’s that may contribute to global warming, or may damage the ozone layer.  Alternative solvents is an item of keen interest to SCF due to its central role in many industrial technologies.  SCF is up to date on new, environmentally-safe “green” solvents and applications in coatings.  We have done a considerable amount of testing recently to ensure that our products will perform well in alternative solvent systems and to study new solvent technology for our customers.  Recent contract research work has focused in part on this subject and we have learned more each month about alternative solvent applications in roof coatings, cleaners and other industrial technologies.
